How it works
Tap Search at the bottom of the screen.
Type a food or a brand, then choose a food from the results.
Check the amount and tap Add.
What it can't do
- Packaged foods
- 5 countries
- Packaged foods cover products sold in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
- New products
- With app updates
- The food catalog updates with the app, so a brand-new product may not be in it yet.
- Values for the wrong amount
- Some products
- Some Open Food Facts products have values for the wrong amount, such as per serving instead of per 100 grams.
- Ranked by popularity
- No
- Search doesn't rank results by how popular a food is.
Questions
Does anything in Calorie Tape need the internet?
Two optional features do, and each asks before it sends anything. Shared Foods checks a barcode against foods other people shared, and Label Reading reads package photos online. iCloud sync copies your log in the background when you're online, and nothing in the app waits for it.
What if I misspell a food?
Search fixes small typos, like "chiken" for chicken. Search also finds UK, Irish, Australian, New Zealand and Canadian food names, like "courgette" for zucchini.
What if a food isn't there?
Tap Create Food and type the values from the package's Nutrition Facts label, or read them from a photo. The food then shows under Your foods when you search.
