This is an estimate. A doctor or dietitian can set a target that fits you.

The formula

Resting burn uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation. Calorie Tape uses the same formula.

Resting burn
10 × weight in kg + 6.25 × height in cm − 5 × age in years, then + 5 for a male or − 161 for a female
Total burn
Resting burn × 1.2 (Not active), 1.375 (Lightly active), 1.55 (Active) or 1.725 (Very active)
Weekly pace
3,500 kcal for each lb, or 7,700 kcal for each kg, spread over 7 days
Target
Total burn + weekly pace, at least 1,200 kcal for a female or 1,500 kcal for a male, rounded to the nearest 10 kcal

The formula is for adults, so the calculator suggests nothing under 18.

Use it in Calorie Tape

Calorie Tape has the same calculator. With net energy off, as the app starts, it gives the same target. It suggests a target once, and Use makes it your daily target. Calorie Tape never changes your target on its own.
